BMW Factory Warranty Pros and Cons

By December 18, 2013 Blog

The dealership offers a factory warranty…we don’t. Sure, there are some short-term benefits, but here’s why it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

Here’s the thing. Factory warranties seem great, and they definitely have some benefits. After all, who wants to pay for repairs and services after they’ve just spent a boatload on a new car? It’s nice to not have to worry. You can just call the dealer and it will get taken care of.

Unfortunately, we’ve seen the dark side of these factory warranties.

First off, there are those annoyances, like when you take your car in for a service or to have something checked out, and you’re hoping to kill two birds with one stone and get your oil changed too. But alas, you’ve still got 500 miles to go before your next scheduled oil change, so the dealer has to make you come back in a few weeks and do it all over again.

But the bigger issue is more than just annoying, it can affect the reliability and overall lifespan of your car.

Your BMW can last you 150-300K miles. Do you believe that? Those low cost “free maintenance” services you get with your factory warranty, like oil changes…those are on the company’s dime. So rather than recommending an oil change every 6,000-9,000 miles, the dealer is going to recommend them every 15,000-18,000 miles.

We’ve seen what happens to your car as a result. And it ain’t pretty. But then again, it does get you in for costly repairs later, when it’s no longer covered by warranty. We’re not conspiracy theorists or anything, just making some observations.

We’ll take a look at your BMW regardless of your warranty status, so give us a call and we’ll get you in right away.
